fort worth: exploring magnolia street

One of my best friends and I decided to go on a mini-road trip, and of course that means lots of exploring! We spent most of today in Fort Worth, and specifically on Magnolia Street (although we did venture over to the science museum, too.) Here were some of our finds!

Avoca Coffee Roasters

This quirky coffee shop has THE BEST chai latte I've ever had. I came here a few months ago and legitimately have thought about it every time I go to a coffee shop and see chai on the menu. It's right next to this little bakery that has wall art listing different peoples' dreams!

The shop itself has lots of open space, some for doing work and some for hanging out. We did not have trouble at all finding seating! On a weekday, the vibe was much more professional, get-work-done, but we had a good time chatting and enjoying our drinks too. They also have tasty pastries from a local bakery nearby, and around the shop are little terrariums from a make-your-own terrarium shop we explored later that morning.

Grow Plant House

We saw LOTS of cute plants today. The first place we went, though, was called Grow, and it's a succulent shop inside an old Airstream trailer.

There's also a little greenhouse next door. It was raining when we went, so you could hear the drops on the transparent roof. They had lots of succulents here, big and small. My jumpsuit got snagged on a cactus!

Inside were more succulents, as well as some good indoor-growing plants. It was all I could do to stop myself from buying everything for my dorm! They also sold some cute pink t-shirts. Between the trailer, the name, the shirts, and the succulents, it was just about the most artsy and aesthetic place we could find!

Ephemera Terrariums

Right across the street from Grow is the place that sold the terrariums we noticed at Avoca: Ephemera. My friend fell absolutely head-over-heels in love the second we walked in the door. There were tables covered in glass bowls housing succulents in little enclosed gardens, a wall with rocks, tubs of tiny dinosaurs, and other little animals and accents for your terrarium, and shelves lining the walls covered in plants.

We were the only there and got to chat with the woman working there, who explained that you buy one of their glass bowls and it comes with a certain number of plants, which you then get to arrange and add different colored stones and other accents. They have terrarium making parties and on Tuesdays there's a happy hour deal where from 5-7 a $30 terrarium is $20 instead.

Behind her was a shelf that said "plant rehabilitation." I asked what that was.

"They just need a little extra care," she said, and I smiled at how sweet it must be to take care of so many sweet plants and all the loving attention they gave each one. My friend and I bought stickers for a dollar and then left, promising to come back after our trip!

Melt Ice Creams

We hadn't eaten lunch yet, but I'd been to Melt before and we had to go again. The last time I went, this yellow-colored ice cream store was packed, but we were the only ones there today.

We chatted with the girl working there, who was named J and had some of the coolest earrings we'd ever seen. She explained that everything was made in house- even the ice-cream cones! We saw what looked like waffle presses and watched as she lifted a finished one off the press and rolled it around a cone-shaped implement to form it. We were amazed. We got an ice cream to share that had chunks of cookie dough in it- J said the cookie dough was made there, too!

"I might have to get a carton on the way back," Daphne told me.

Afterwards we continued our adventure by checking out the Fort Worth science museum and then left the Fort Worth area for our next stop. We are almost certainly going to revisit Magnolia Street on the way back! Coffee, ice cream, plants... but my favorite part about this are was all the local shops and the community they all create. They advertise each others' businesses within their shops and all support each other. I loved the dedication each shop had to their business and the joy they shared to their customers. We are definitely coming back!
